12/03/2007
Students from years ten and 12 across the Cheshire and Liverpool areas took part in a Stock Market Challenge last week.
Sponsored by Marks & Spencer Money (M&S Money), the competition allowed youngsters to get a taste of what the trading floor has to offer.
The winning school in the year ten event was St. Benedict's College, Liverpool, which had a closing fund of £134,900, while Bluecoat School, Liverpool, was victorious in the year twelve category with a closing fund of £197,285.
Eddie Nott, deputy chief executive of M&S Money, commented: "Stock Market Challenge helps us to promote financial capability and enterprise and teaches young people team-working and communication skills.
"Working in partnership with schools is one of the most effective ways to invest in the future."
He added that young people can gather an insight into "a real working environment", which could help them begin their own personal career plans.
Students from the winning teams were each given unit trust investments in the M&S ethical fund.
