The finances of small businesses in Scotland could soon receive a boost if plans outlined by the Scottish National Party (SNP) come into fruition.
SNP leader Alex Salmond last week called for small businesses in the country to be "freed from the burden" that is business rates, something outlined in its manifesto.
Speaking at the Federation of Small Businesses hustings in Edinburgh, Mr Salmond outlined his plans to make business finances less complicated for the company if the SNP were chosen as the next government in Scotland.
"The SNP wants Scotland's small businesses to be freed from the burden of business rates so they are free to grow and provide more and better paid jobs in local communities," Mr Salmond said.
"Under our proposals three out of four businesses will be better off: 120,000 businesses in Scotland will have their business rates abolished and a further 30,000 businesses will have their rates significantly reduced as a result of the scheme."
The SNP has said that between 2000-01 and 2006-07, Scottish businesses have had to pay an additional £900 million as a result of the abolition of the uniform business rate.
