Self-employed over-45s 'look online'

The older generation in the UK is using the internet to grow its businesses, as well as manage their finances, it has emerged.
According to building society group Birmingham Midshires, seven per cent of over-45s claim they are solely reliant on the internet to form business relationships and make money.
Furthermore, 40 per cent of the self-employed over-45s indicate that the internet is important for their businesses to function, the survey states.
Overall, the Birmingham Midshires' report highlights that there are now one in ten over-45s who are self-employed.
Jason Robinson, director of savings operations at Birmingham Midshires, commented: "Our Life 2 research shows that the internet has gone some way to help people overcome the age barrier in employment that many face as they get older.
"As an online financial services provider, Birmingham Midshires has long seen an increasing number of older people managing their finances online and it seems that this extends to making money as well as saving it."
