Scottish firms 'get closer to the OFT'
19/03/2007
Businesses in Scotland could have stronger links with the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), according to the organisation, following the opening of its new office in Edinburgh.
One of the main roles of the new OFT centre is to develop and diversify relationships with the Scottish executive and other partners.
Additionally, the base will aim to establish links with the media in Scotland, in order to further promote fair markets and consumer welfare, the OFT states.
Having an office in the Scottish capital city will also increase the amount of information the OFT in London has regarding events north of the border, the group states.
Kyla Brand, the OFT's representative in Scotland, commented: "The OFT office in Scotland opened by the chairman Philip Collins demonstrates the commitment of OFT to making markets work well for consumers and fair trading businesses in Scotland.
"We will provide a more local contact point for businesses and stakeholders and enable the OFT to offer them better support across Scotland on both Scottish and UK-wide matters."
