New report looks at gender issues in business
23/04/2007

Men and women have different ways of making it to the top in business, according to a new report.

Whereas men use sport as a business "opener", women often use their emotions, the study from marketing expert Philip Forrest states.

Reporting the research, Scotland on Sunday indicates that businesses with women in lead roles can often be at an advantage due to their "rarity value".

However, the review reveals that a number of female employers are still finding it difficult to be taken seriously within their sectors.

"Being able to turn on the charm and to perhaps get away with a little more was seen as a potential benefit," the report says.

"Perhaps social prejudice issues and female business education criteria could be better dealt with to create a climate where is it is expected that women will be successful in business."

The publication, due to be released this week, investigates the contributions women make to the business world.
