11/04/2007
The government has announced a new funding boost for businesses in Northern Ireland, named the Community Enterprise Centre Scheme.
A three-year initiative, the project is being run by Enterprise Ireland and will be funded by a €21 million (£14.6 million) injection of finance.
The scheme is aimed at promoting budding businesses and entrepreneurs, allowing them the space and support to develop ideas and grow.
"The Community Enterprise Centre Scheme is a partnership between the state and the local community where business space is provided in a supportive environment for emerging entrepreneurs," said Micheal Martin, minister for enterprise, trade and employment.
Some 330 new businesses are expected to be generated by the scheme, Mr Martin said, with 1,500 jobs being created as a result.
A total of €44 million has been spent on the schemes since the first one was introduced in 1989. There have been a further three schemes up to this point.
