Businesses await Brown's Budget
21/03/2007
Today is Budget day and businesses will be awaiting chancellor Gordon Brown's announcements to see how they will be affected.
According to the Herald, Mr Brown will need to increase the competitiveness of the UK tax system, as well as making it more resistant to tax avoidance and other abuses.
The publication also indicates that it will be interesting to see if the chancellor's fiscal measures will see additional taxes established or incentives for greener behaviour implemented.
Businesses or individual consumers could be targeted regarding these matters, the newspaper states.
Moreover, it is revealed that Mr Brown's Budget decisions could have an effect on the number of businesses which stay based in the UK, as recent Deloitte reports highlight how the UK's tax system discourages investment.
The motor industry has also been calling on the chancellor not to raise an "already-high tax burden" and to reduce the amount of red tape companies in the sector have to deal with.
